27.Jul.2010 - We are currently upgrading our data processing - over the next few days you may notice intermittent problems with the data however rest assured we are aware of this and will have things back to normal shortly.
26.Jul.2010 - The new WatchKeeper buoy located at Come By Chance Point is now on station and reporting on the SmartBay.ca website and on SmartBay Mobile. Many thanks to Canadian Coast Guard for their cooperation and assistance in getting the new buoys deployed.
06.Jul.2010 - We are very pleased to announce that our new meteorological/oceanographic buoy at the Pilot Boarding Station/Red Island Shoal is now reporting on the SmartBay.ca website.
11.Jun.2010 - NOTE: Beginning Sunday June 13th we will be undertaking major upgrade of the SmartBay buoys. Changes will include upgrade of Buoy 1 and installation of new met./ocean buoys at our Red Island and Come By Chance locations. This work will likely result in a few days of downtime for which we apologize in advance. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions or concerns.
15.Apr.2010 - The SmartBay team has just taken delivery of two new meteorological/oceanographic buoys for deployment at the Red Island and Come by Chance locations. We are in the process of assembly and testing and hope to have the new buoys on station within the next 4 - 6 weeks. Funding support for the upgrade was made available through the provincial Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development

This new service provides "on-the-go" access via your Blackberry, mobile phone or hand-held computer to our real-time buoy information and Placentia Bay weather forecasts. Use our familiar www.SmartBay.ca web address on your mobile device to automatically access SmartBay Mobile.
12.Aug.2009 - SmartBay will be further advanced with a $330,000 investment from the Provincial Government. The investment in SmartBay was announced today by the Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, and marks the initial investment under the recently released Oceans of Opportunity, a five-year $28 million strategy focused on stimulating growth in Newfoundland and Labrador’s ocean technology sector. 11.Aug.2009 - Our Buoy 4 (Wave Buoy) is back on station in the vicinity of the Pilot Boarding Station south-east of Red Island and reporting information through SmartBay.ca.
10.Mar.2009 - As of March 10, 2009 Buoy 1 has been deployed back on station. Many thanks to the Canadian Coast Guard in their assistance with making this happen.
13.Feb.2009 - Buoy 4 has been retreived as of February 12, 2009 and is currently undergoing maintenance. The intent is to have this buoy back on station as soon as possible.
05.Jan.2009 - Buoy 1 was retrieved in late December/08 and is currently undergoing maintenance - many thanks to Canadian Coast Guard for its assistance. We intend to have it back on station in the very near future.
23.Dec.2008 - Buoys 1 and 3 are currently out of service due to insufficient solar charging. We are attempting to resolve the problem however it will likely be early in the new year before the buoys are operational.

09.Dec.2008 - Buoy 2 has been intermittent over the past few days due to limited solar recharging - an issue caused by the combination of short daylight hours and limited direct sunlight. We will be adjusting reporting schedules over the coming days to resolve this issue.
09.Dec.2008 - We are currently experiencing charging problems with Buoy 1 resulting in a reduced reporting schedule. It is anticipated we will be pulling the buoy in the near future to address this problem. Please rest assured our aim is to minimize any downtime. Note we will continue to provide site-specific forecasting for this location.
